PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s freshman attacker Stephanie Kelly has been selected the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the first conference accolade of Kelly’s career.
Kelly recorded her first collegiate hat trick and added two assists for a season-high, five-point effort in SJU’s 21-8 win over Central Connecticut on Saturday afternoon. The freshman out of Melbourne, Australia factored into four of SJU’s first nine scoring plays of the game with a pair of goals and a pair of assists and went on to hit the back of the net for the third time late in the second half.
Kelly, who has started both of SJU's games on the attack, has racked up eight points in her first two collegiate games to tie for 10th (with Graci Fulkerson of Arizona State and Ioanna Mantzouratos of George Washington) among all NCAA Division I freshmen in total points.
Kelly and the Hawks return to action tomorrow, February 21, at Temple. Start time at Howarth Field in Philadelphia is set for 3:00 p.m.
