ABOUT THE HAWKS
• Saint Joseph’s lost another one that came down to the wire, falling at La Salle, 81-78, despite a career-high 30 points from Shavar Newkirk. James Demery had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Pierfrancesco Oliva scored 10 points
• James Demery is averaging a career-best 17.7 points for the Hawks and 19.6 points in Atlantic 10 games
• Shavar Newkirk scored his 1,000th career point at La Salle, becoming the second Hawk to do so this season as James Demery notched his earlier this year
• James Demery returned to the lineup at La Salle after missing the Saint Louis game with a sprained ankle. Nick Robinson missed the La Salle game with a thigh contusion and he will be a game-day decision
• SJU’s current four-game losing streak is the longest of the year and the longest since a nine-game streak in late January-early February last season

BUGGED BY INJURIES
• James Demery missed his first game of the year against Saint Louis, with a sprained ankle he suffered in the Penn loss; he played at La Salle and posted 20 points and 11 rebounds
• Despite missing practice earlier this week with an illness, Pierfrancesco Oliva played 20 minutes in the Saint Louis game and then 23 at La Salle. Oliva missed the UMass game on Jan. 14 with the flu
• Nick Robinson sat out the La Salle game with a thigh contusion and will be a game-day decision

CLOSE CALLS
• The Hawks have been involved in a number of close games this year as 14 of the 22 have been decided by less than 10 points
• More importantly, 10 of SJU’s 13 losses are by a combined total of 37 points, and an average margin of 3.7 points
• Four of the Hawks’ losses in January were by three points or less; they started February with a three-point loss to La Salle
