MERION STATION, Pa. - Five members of the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team have advanced to semifinal matches following Saturday's play at the 2017 SJU Invitational.

Freshman Amanda Nava will face Kenda Bunch of Drexel in the semifinals of the first singles flight at 9.a.m. at the SJU Tennis Complex, while juniors Isis Gill-Reid and Laura Gomez will each play at 10:30 a.m. in opposite sides of the draw in the second singles consolation flight. In the third singles flight consolation bracket, Katherine Devlin will take on Delaware's Arielle Shuren at 10:30 a.m. at the SJU Tennis Complex and SJU rookie Iswarya Vel will face Bucknell's Danielle Gannon at 9:00 a.m. in the fourth singles consolation semifinals at Finnesey Courts.

Nava opened the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over La Salle's Ali Snyder, and followed with a 7-5, 6-4 decision in the quarterfinals over Villanova's DeNucci.

On the other side of the draw, Maureen Devlin earned a 6-3, 6-3 win in her opening match, but eventually fell in the quarterfinals to Drexel's Ghita Benhadi in a hard-fought three-set match, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.

In the second flight, both Gill-Reid dropped a tough 6-4, 6-7 (2), 10-3 contest to open the day, but earned a bye in the consolation bracket to advance to the semifinals.

Playing in her first home match as a Hawk, Gomez dropped an early match, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8, but battled back with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mary Washington's Rachel Cooper to earn a semifinal spot.

In the third flight, Katherine Devlin topped La Salle's Ally Santerelli, 6-0, 6-3 in the consolation bracket after falling, 6-3, 6-3, in her opening match.

Madeline Hill fell in three-sets in her third flight opener, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, and dropped a 7-5, 6-0 match in the consolation draw.

Vel fell 6-0, 6-0 to Drexel's Marta Martinez to start the day, but posted a 6-0, 4-6, 10-3 victory over La Salle's Maansi Malhotra in the consolation draw.

Madison Chontos opened play on the other side of the fourth singles draw with a 7-5, 6-2 win, before falling to Delaware's Annie Jaskulski, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Play elsewhere across all brackets is set to start on Sunday at 9 a.m.
