PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's fourth-year head coach Alex Kahoe has announced the addition of defender Sarah Platt (Wynnewood, Pa./Agnes Irwin School), a sophomore transfer from the University of Virginia, to the 2018 women’s lacrosse roster. After redshirting the 2017 season with the Cavaliers, Platt will take the field with the Hawks in Spring 2018 with four remaining years of eligibility.
Platt was a defender on the 2015 U.S. Women’s National Under-19 Team that competed at the Federation of International Lacrosse Under-19 World Championship in Scotland, and Kahoe believes that Platt’s international experience will be advantageous to the Hawks’ success this spring.
“We are so excited to welcome Sarah Platt to our Saint Joseph's women’s lacrosse family,” said Kahoe. “Sarah's work ethic, athleticism, and knowledge of the game will help her to make an immediate impact on our team. The international experience that Sarah brings from the U-19 World Cup will contribute to the continued success of our team on our quest toward an Atlantic 10 Championship.”
While at the Agnes Irwin School, Platt was a 2016 Under Armour High School All-American as a senior and enjoyed a decorated junior season in which she was named to the High School All-American First Team, USA Today First Team, Philadelphia Inquirer All-Southeastern Pennsylvania First Team, PhillyLacrosse.com First Team, All-Main Line First Team, All-Inter-Ac First Team, and All-Delco First Team and took home USA Today Pennsylvania Player of the Year honors.
Platt was named to Inside Lacrosse’s Top Rising Junior and Top Senior Lists, ranked as the #2 defender on each, and was a two-time Inside Lacrosse All-Women High School Team selection.
A local product of nearby Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, Platt was selected to the 2014 Philadelphia Under Amour Underclassman Team and 2014 Under Armour (All-Star) Elite All-Tournament Team as a sophomore and was a two-time member of the Philly Lacrosse National Team #1 during her freshman and sophomore seasons at the Agnes Irwin School.
Platt will join a Saint Joseph's squad that is coming off of a program-record, 11-win season, which was capped by the program’s second consecutive appearance at the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament last spring.
