NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Helping the Hawks to a pair of Atlantic 10 wins and hitting .545 over four games, Saint Joseph's freshman first baseman Caela Abadie has garnered Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week honors, conference officials announced late on Monday.
Hitting .545 with six runs scored, four RBI and a pair of home runs on the week, Abadie helped Saint Joseph's win its final Atlantic 10 conference series to earn the third seed in this week's Atlantic 10 Championship. After reaching safely in a midweek game against city rival Drexel, Abadie put an exclamation on the regular season at George Mason. In the first game, the West Chester, Pa., native tallied the Hawks' only run in a 3-1 loss, but followed going 6-for-8 with five runs scored, four RBI and a pair of home runs in SJU's 6-4 and 6-0 wins. Playing first base, Abadie posted a .643 on-base percentage and 1.182 slugging percentage last week.
Abadie and the third seed Hawks open play at the 2017 A-10 Championship this Wednesday versus sixth seed George Mason at 2:30 p.m.
