PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team hosted a successful Navy Day Regatta this past Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
How It Happened
• The first race of the morning, Pairs, saw the Hawks post strong finishes as Hannah Howard and Grace McKeon placed fourth, and Isabella Haleski and Shane Devine finished in 12th place.
• Rowing in the largest field of the day, the Varsity 4s placed 11th, 22nd, and 24th out of 40 boats.
• In the Varsity 8s, the Hawks finished ahead of several competitive teams.
• The Freshmen 8, consisting of walk-on student-athletes competing in their first races, had a solid showing with a lot of potential for growth in the coming weeks.
"In the fall, we are looking more at our percentage off of the winning time. Take our 11th-place 4, we were less than four second off of a top-5 finish," said head coach Gerry Quinlan
"In all of our races, our time off of the leaders are within our striking distance come spring, when it really count"
The Hawks return to the water next Saturday, October 19, at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
