PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad will remain on the road to face Hartford in non-conference action at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium in West Hartford, Conn. this Tuesday, October 8 before returning home to host Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 play on Sweeney Field this Saturday, October 12.

NOTE: Saint Joseph's match at Hartford was originally scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start but was moved up as a safety precaution due to the mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus that hit the region and will now begin at 3:00 p.m. SJU's home match against URI on Saturday remains a 7:00 p.m. start.

The Hawks were predicted to finish eighth in the A-10's preseason poll. For the third consecutive year, the eight-team A-10 Championship will see the opening rounds played on the campus of the higher seeds. With matches set for November 9 and 10, the four advancing teams will battle for the A-10 postseason title at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 15 (semifinals) and November 17 (title game). The A-10 tournament champion will earn the A-10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S (4-7-0, 0-3-0 A-10)
• The Hawks will look to get back in the win column after dropping four of their last five contests, most recently a 2-0 loss at La Salle on Saturday evening.

• Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference selections Leon Maric (4g, 1a) and Ritchie Barry (2g, 4a) lead the Hawks in scoring while junior midfielder Alvin Dahn (3g, 1a), sophomore midfielder Garrett Lyons (2g, 2a), and junior defender Daniel Morales (2g, 1a) have supplemented the offense.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Joseph Boehm (4-7-0, 0-3-0 A-10) sports a 1.84 goals against average and .730 save percentage in all 11 starts and 978:37, all but 19:14 on the year.
• Saint Joseph's is coming off of an 8-7-3 season (2-3-3 A-10) from 2018 and returns 17 letterwinners, including nine starters from a season ago. Senior defender Mike Fornaro and junior midfielder Aidan Watkins captain the Hawks this fall.

ABOUT HARTFORD (6-2-2)
• After opening the season with back-to-back road losses to Cal State Fullerton, 2-0, and UC Riverside, 2-1, Hartford went on an eight-match unbeaten streak with six straight wins over Brown, 2-1, Niagara, 1-0, St. Bonaventure, 1-0, Fairfield, 2-0, CCSU, 2-0, and Albany, 1-0, before drawing in its last two matches, vs. Northeastern, 1-1, and UMBC, 0-0.
• Hartford is 1-0-1 at home this year, playing eight of their 10 matches thus far on the road (5-2-1).

• Nine different Hawks have scored for Hartford, led by Rasmus Karlsson (2) and Kamer Nuhiu (2g), while Jimmy Slayton (6-2-2) owns a .580 goals against average and .864 save percentage in all 937:00.
• The Hawks have turned it around this year after going 1-10-5 overall (1-5-1 America East) last fall. Despite being predicted to finish eighth in the eight-team AE Preseason Poll, Hartford currently sits in third (1-0-1 AE). 

• The all-time series stands at 1-1-1; Hartford won the first meeting, 2-0, in 1985, before Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 win in 2016. The teams drew in their last meeting, 1-1, in 2017; then-freshman midfielder Ritchie Barry drew the penalty inside the box that earned SJU its PK opportunity and goal in the 11th minute.

ABOUT RHODE ISLAND (5-3-2, 2-1-0 A-10)
• Rhode Island has either won or drew in six of its last seven matches, including Atlantic 10 wins over George Washington, 1-0, and Fordham, 3-1 (and a 1-0 loss at Saint Louis sandwiched in between).
• Tamburini Filippo (5g, 2a), Stavros Zarokostas (3g, 3a), and Edvin Akselsen (2g, 7a) lead the Rams in scoring while Stefan Schmidt (5-3-2, 2-1-0 A-10) sports a 1.12 goals against average and .800 save percentage in all 965:10.
• The Rams were predicted to finish third in the Atlantic 10's 13-member field, according to the A-10's Preseason Coaches Poll. Midfielder Zarokostas and defender Peder Kristiansen were tagged to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
• Rhode Island went 15-5 (5-3 A-10) last fall, winning its seventh A-10 title before falling in overtime to UConn, 4-3, in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
• Saturday's match will mark the 28th all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and Rhode Island, with the Rams owning a 21-7-0 series edge. SJU did defeat URI, 3-1, in the last match-up on Sweeney Field in 2016; senior midfielder Daryus Lake is the only returning player who saw time in the game, appearing off the bench for 27 minutes as a rookie.
