TOWSON, Md. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team kicked off its fall slate on Saturday at the Towson Classic. The Hawks collected five singles wins, while splitting a pair of doubles tilts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Towson Classic uses a 4+1 format, where teams will contest four singles and one doubles match, but there is no team result.
• In their first competition of the day, the Hawks came away with two wins against Loyola. Freshman Anna Kirk notched a singles win, while freshmen Ireland Amato and Sophia Amato paired for a doubles victory.
"An excellent season beginning from our young ladies squad," head coach Ian Crookenden said. "We had great first-day matches from all four freshmen, plus we had solid play from all returning squad members. Still a lot to work on but an extremely promising first day of competition."
Play concludes at the Towson Classic on Sunday.
