NEW ORLEANS – The 2019 Saint Joseph's men's cross country squad has been ranked 10th in a field of 15 ranked teams in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Cross Country Preseason Regional Rankings for the Mid-Atlantic Region, it was announced on Monday afternoon.
The Hawks finished 10th in a field of 24 teams at the 2018 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship last fall and return senior Zach Michon, who placed 43rd in a field of 168 for SJU's top individual finish last fall. SJU will look to fill the vacancy of graduate scorers Shawn Hutchison (51st), Jack Daly (58th), Will Sponaugle (75th), and Collin Crilly (81st) and returns juniors Matthew Scarpill (98th) and Bobby Hastie (120th), its #6 and #7 finishers.
Princeton, Villanova, Georgetown, Penn, and Temple filled the first five slots, respectively, while Penn State, La Salle, Navy, Pittsburgh, and the Crimson and Gray rounded out the top ten. Saint Joseph's was followed by Duquesne, Bucknell, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, and Lehigh.
The 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship will be hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, November 15. The top two teams and top four individuals receive automatic qualification for the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championship, to be held on Saturday, November 23 in Terra Haute, Ind.
Saint Joseph’s opens the 2019 campaign on Saturday, September 7 at the Monmouth Kick-Off Invitational in Lincroft, N.J.
