Incoming women's basketball freshman forward Claire Melia helped lead the Ireland U20 National Team to a bronze medal in Division B at the recently-completed 2019 FIBA U20 Women's European Championships held in Prishtina, Kosovo.

Melia led the way for Ireland with 16.3 points per game, good for sixth in the tournament, and 12.0 rebounds per game, second among all competitors, as Ireland won three of its four games in the group stages before falling to eventual champion Bulgaria in the semifinals.  In the bronze medal game, she poured in 20 points and added 10 boards as Ireland held off a late rally to top Great Britain, 60-57.

A native of Monasterevin, Ireland, Melia finished the tournament sixth in assists at 4.2 per game and seventh in blocks at 1.0 per game.  She led the tournament in both efficiency rating and double-doubles as she recorded double figures in both points and rebounds in all six games of the tournament; no other player achieved the feat more than three times.

For her efforts, Melia was named to the All-Star Five at the conclusion of the Championship.

With its third-place finish, Ireland was promoted to Division A for the 2020 iteration of the Championship alongside Bulgaria and runner-up Finland.  Two years ago, Melia helped lead the U18 squad to Ireland's first-ever Division A promotion with a silver medal at the U18 European Championships.
