Melissa Dunne has been named an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Saint Joseph’s women’s basketball program, head coach Cindy Griffin announced in June '19.
Dunne joins the Hawks after three seasons as women’s basketball head coach at Holy Family. Under her direction, the Tigers advanced to the 2018 CACC Tournament, while four student-athletes earned All-CACC accolades and eight were named to the CACC All-Academic Team.
Dunne came to Holy Family after helping George Washington to two consecutive A-10 titles as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In her first season with the Colonials, she helped the team set a new program record for wins (29) en route to earning its first NCAA appearance since 2008.
Beginning her coaching career at Drexel, Dunne joined the Dragons in 2002 as a graduate assistant and transitioned to assistant coach the following year before moving on to Rhode Island as an assistant for the 2006-07 season. She returned to Drexel the following year as an assistant and recruiting coordinator. The Dragons captured their first-ever CAA title and NCAA berth in 2009, with Dunne a key part of the program’s success as Drexel earned five consecutive postseason bids, which included winning the 2013 WNIT championship.
A four-year letterwinner at Temple, Dunne was a key contributor for the Owls from 1998-02. Serving as team captain as a senior, she helped lead the Owls to just their third 20-win season in team history as they would capture both the A-10 and Big 5 titles and earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in more than a decade.
A 2002 graduate with a bachelor's degree in journalism, broadcasting and public relations from Temple, Dunne earned a master's degree in public communication from Drexel in 2006. She replaces Susan Lavin, who will now serve as the team’s director of player development.
