PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s senior Cassie Francis and junior Shane Devine were named to the 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Rowing Team on Wednesday afternoon.

The squad is selected through voting conducted by the sports information offices of 30 area institutions.  In order to be eligible for All-Area honors, a student-athlete must be in at least her second year at her institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better.

Francis, a native of Gloucester City, New Jersey, was tabbed for the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team this season as a member of the Hawks’ Varsity 8 boat.  A year ago, Francis was part of a Third Varsity boat that pulled in silver medalist honors at the Dad Vail Regatta.  She has also been named to both the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s and SJU Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls.

Devine earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors as part of the same Varsity 8 squad.  That boat earned third place honors at the George Washington Invitational this year and was named the Atlantic 10 Boat of the Week on April 11.  A native of Ellicott City, Maryland, Devine is also a member of the Commissioner and Athletic Director’s Honor Rolls.
