Saint Joseph’s rowing’s Varsity 8 crew earned the first Atlantic 10 Conference Boat of the Week award of the season the league announced Thursday.  The award, created last year, is selected by the conference office to recognize an outstanding performance in the weeks leading up to the A-10 Championship, which takes place on Saturday, May 18 at the Cooper River.

The Hawks’ Varsity 8 team won the first race of season against Villanova and Delaware by a boat length in open water to kick off the 2019 season. SJU clocked in at 6:32.8, beating Delaware by six seconds and Villanova by almost 10 seconds.

The Saint Joseph’s V8 team is comprised of the following student-athletes:

Additionally the Atlantic 10 announced the first weekly boat rankings ahead of the 2019 championship in the four championship events as voted on by the coaches. RANKINGS
