The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program will recognize its five graduating seniors leading up to the regular-season home finale against La Salle this Sunday, April 14. Today's senior spotlight will feature defensive stalwart Ally Beck, who has played in a program-record 69 games and ties for second in career caused turnovers (67) on Hawk Hill.
Having played next to her on the back line all season, senior classmate Sinead Brierley weighs in on what Beck has meant to the team.
"Throughout our four years, Ally Beck has been an amazing teammate, but an even better friend," said Brierley. "When she's not breaking records on our run tests, she is a great competitor and always gives everything she has on the field. Her experience on defense is a huge asset to our team, and I am so glad I am able to play next to her this season. In our final season, Ally Beck has really taught me to have fun and to enjoy every little moment, and I am so thankful to have her as a teammate and a best friend. Love you, AB!!!"
1. What is your favorite Saint Joseph’s lacrosse memory?
My favorite memory would be our team international trip to Europe this past summer. It was an amazing opportunity to spend time with my teammates and experience some of the coolest places together.
2. How would you like to be remembered as a member of the Saint Joseph’s lacrosse team?
I would like to be remembered as being a great teammate and as someone the younger girls were able to look up to. I always remember the alumnae for the laughs and fun they brought to the sport, and I hope I was able to carry that on.
3. What is the biggest life lesson that the Saint Joseph’s lacrosse program has taught you?
The lacrosse program has taught me time management. It is insane how much college athletes fit into one day. Learning how to balance school, sports, and extracurriculars is something I will be able to carry out post-grad.
4. What will you miss most about the Saint Joseph's lacrosse program?
I am going to miss being able to “Ball with my Bros” every day, whether it be the competitiveness, the laughs, or the wins. Getting to play the sport you love with an amazing group of girls is something that I will truly miss for years to come.
5. Team superlatives:
Best dancer: Bec Lane. She has all the moves. (4 years later and she has yet to teach me a thing.)
Best-dressed: Taylor Newman-Farr. No one else can pull off a Smurf blue jumpsuit like she does.
Favorite shooting song of a teammate: "Right Hand" by Drake (Sophia Kolkka's.)
Favorite tailgate food: Chick-fil-A nuggets.
Favorite lacrosse drill: Trash Can Lacrosse, indoor lacrosse game. (Shoutout Grace Gallagher and Sinead Brierley for the hypest trash can team trio.)
Favorite coach's quote: “13 water bottles.” –Head coach Alex Kahoe
Thank you, seniors. The Hawk Will Never Die!
