NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After turning in a pair of remarkable performances at the Wagner College Invitational this past Friday, Saint Joseph's senior sprint standout Nathaniela Bourdeau has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Track Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the third weekly conference accolade of her career, also having earned Performer of the Week honors in January '18 and Rookie of the Week honors in February '16, and first of the season.
Bourdeau won the 200m title in a field of 26 sprinters in a season-best time of 24.97 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., taking her heat by nearly two seconds and defeating runner-up Janaya Lewis of St. Francis (N.Y.) by .90 seconds for the win. The performance marked Bourdeau's seventh 200m victory of her collegiate career.
Earlier that afternoon, Bourdeau placed second in the 60m, and it came down to milliseconds as she finished in 7.713 in comparison to Ashley Blackwell's 7.711, the winning time out of LIU Brooklyn. Bourdeau's time marks her second ECAC-qualifying performance of the season, but her time from the Fastrack Metro Season Opener (7.71) will remain her seed time for the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. The performance also marked the 10th top-three 60m finish of the captain's collegiate career.
For her two performances, Bourdeau earned 18 points for the Crimson and Gray - nearly a quarter of the Hawks' point total (74.5) for the meet - to lead the Crimson and Gray to fourth overall.
Bourdeau and the Hawks return to action at the Angry Birds Invitational this Saturday, January 12. Events are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
