Saint Joseph’s guard Jared Bynum has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office. It marks the first conference honor of his career.
The 5-10 freshman averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the Hawks’ 1-1 week, while converting 68.8 percent (11-for-16) from the field and 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the foul line.
Bynum tied his career-high with 17 points in the win over UIC on November 28, converting 9-of-9 free throws. He also registered two assists and no turnovers for the fourth time in seven games. He then set a new career-high with 23 points against Temple, making 7-of-9 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws, and tying his season-high with five assists.
Bynum is the Hawks’ third leading scorer, averaging 13.3 points on the season and a team-high 3.6 assists. He leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 10th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (4.83).
Saint Joseph’s (4-4) returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Princeton (4-2).
