Saint Joseph's University and head women's basketball coach Cindy Griffin have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension, school officials have announced. The agreement comes as Griffin begins her 18th season on Hawk Hill, compiling more wins than any coach in program history.

“The success of Saint Joseph's Athletics, including the development of our student-athletes, starts with our head coaches,” stated Saint Joseph's University Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner. “Cindy does an outstanding job leading our women's basketball program and developing young women. The multi-year extension of her contract reflects our hope that Cindy will continue to lead the program well into the future.”

Saint Joseph's all-time leader in victories, Griffin has composed a record of 309-228 at her alma mater and guided the Hawks to 20 or more victories seven times. Ranking third all-time in Atlantic 10 wins (157), she has led Saint Joseph's to a record 12 postseason berths and holds the program mark for postseason wins with eight.

Earning both A-10 and Big 5 Coach of the Year accolades during her tenure, Griffin has sparked her squads to three Big 5 titles and claimed Saint Joseph's third A-10 title in 2013.

"I am extremely appreciative of the trust and commitment that President Mark Reed and Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner have put in me to continue to coach at Saint Joseph’s University," said Griffin. "Saint Joseph’s has a great tradition of excellence for academics, athletics and for developing everyday champions. I am proud to say I have been a part of that as a student-athlete and as a coach. My staff and I and look forward to the opportunity to build on the tradition here on Hawk Hill!"

A true teacher of the game, Griffin has helped 20 student-athletes earn A-10 All-Conference honors and has seen 16 Hawks go on to play professionally, including current Washington Mystics guard Natasha Cloud '15.
