PHILADELPHIA – After leading the Hawks to a 2-2 draw with La Salle in Philadelphia Soccer Six action last Wednesday and a 3-2 overtime win over then-#21 Fordham on Saturday, Saint Joseph's men's soccer senior midfielder Derek MacKinnon has been named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week, while redshirt junior defender Mike Fornaro has been tabbed the organization's Defender of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon. The honor marks the third Soccer Six honor of MacKinnon's career after earning a pair of Rookie of the Week nods in 2015 while Fornaro takes home his first ever collegiate accolade.

MacKinnon and Fornaro led the Hawks to yet another pair of unbeaten results at home, as SJU now stands at 5-0-1 on Hawk Hill this fall.

MacKinnon struck the back of the net in each match, netting the equalizer (63') against La Salle just 33 seconds after the Explorers had gone up, 2-1, and scoring the go-ahead goal (51') to put the Hawks up, 2-1, early in the second half against Fordham. In 12 matches played this year, with 10 starts on the left wing, MacKinnon owns eight points on three goals and two helpers.

Against La Salle, Fornaro played the full 110:00 on the back line and made a handful of gritty plays, including a pair of key slide tackles, to break up offensive opportunities by the Explorers. Against Fordham, Fornaro did more of the same, breaking up Fordham's offensive opportunities time after time. He was additionally credited with a team save in the 75th minute, blasting a shot from Fordham's Bart Dziedzic off the goal line.

Offensively against Fordham, less than four minutes after going down 1-0, Fornaro blasted the ball from the midfield up to the Hawks' attacking third, and the ball snuck through the Rams' back line for the first-half equalizer as Fornaro earned the first goal of his collegiate career. Fornaro was also responsible for pushing the ball up field to junior forward Leon Maric, who went on the score the match-winner in overtime on the play.

Fornaro has started all 12 matches on the back line this fall, with 1,106 minutes played.
