The 2018-19 basketball season begins on Hawk Hill in exactly 100 days, highlighted by an opening night doubleheader featuring both the SJU men’s and women’s teams as well as the return of the popular “Fan Fest” concept between games. The doubleheader is scheduled for Friday, November 9, with the SJU women’s team hosting Philadelphia Big 5 rival Temple and the SJU men taking on Old Dominion.

Opening night will mark the Hawks’ 10th season in the Michael J. Hagan ’85 Arena, which replaced Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse prior to the 2009-10 campaign. Complete schedules for both men’s and women’s basketball will be released later this summer, along with ticket packages and pricing information.

“Speaking for everyone on Hawk Hill, we are incredibly excited for the start of another basketball season,” stated first-year Saint Joseph’s athletic director Jill Bodensteiner. “We are committed to making every visit to Hagan Arena a first-class experience. Personally, as a new arrival, I am counting down the days along with all of our fans.”

To date, the men’s home schedule features five NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including Davidson, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and the University of Pennsylvania, plus additional Big 5 foes La Salle and Temple. The non-conference schedule is highlighted by the Myrtle Beach Invitational, beginning November 15, along with a visit to defending NCAA champion Villanova on December 8.

The women’s home schedule includes the return of the Hawk Classic (Nov. 24-25) over Thanksgiving weekend, with the Hawks hosting Boston College, Loyola Maryland and Rider. The challenging home slate continues with post-season participants Villanova, Duquesne, Fordham and Saint Louis among those making a visit to Hagan Arena.
