PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's men's soccer head coach Don D'Ambra has announced the incoming Class of 2022, which features eight freshmen, as well as a junior transfer in time for the 2018 campaign.

New to Hawk Hill are freshmen Joseph Boehm (Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas/Grapevine), Johnny Cunningham (West Chester, Pa./Episcopal Academy), Alec Ghodsi (Tampa, Fla./Carrollwood Day School), Garrett Lyons (Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Preparatory School), James McCombs (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial), Frantz Pierrot (Port Au Prince, Haiti/Melrose (Mass.)), Bryce Wallace (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum), and Scott Woodington (Delran, N.J./Delran) alongside University of Virginia transfer Leon Maric (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).

"I am really excited to announce our incoming 2018 recruiting class for the SJU men's soccer program," said D'Ambra. "My staff and I have focused on getting stronger in some specific areas and felt that we accomplished what we set out to do. We were very selective on the talent level and characteristics and feel this group of young men will be great additions to our program. We expect them to compete immediately for playing time and know they will represent our school and soccer program with high standard."

Joseph Boehm • Goalkeeper

Boehm played his senior season at Grapevine High School, where he was the 2018 District Offensive Player of the Year, an All-District and All-Region First Team pick, and an All-State Second Team honoree. He was also tabbed Grapevine’s 2018 Offensive Player of the Year and earned a Fort Worth Star Telegram Player of the Week nod. Prior to his 2018 season at Grapevine, Boehm was a four-year USSFDA Academy starter (2013-17). Outside of soccer, Boehm was a member of the National Honor Society at Grapevine High School and earned 2018 Academic All-State accolades for his success in the classroom.

Johnny Cunningham • Left Full Back

A four-year varsity starter and team captain for the Churchmen, Cunningham was an All-Inter-Ac League, All-Main Line, and All-Delaware County First Team selection. For club, he was State Cup Champion (and five-time State Cup Finalist) with the Penn Fusion Soccer Academy. Outside of soccer, Cunningham was a member of the Community Service Board at Episcopal Academy and a Horizons National Summer Enrichment volunteer. 

Alec Ghodsi • Center Back

Ghodsi was a three-time District Champion (2014, 2016, 2018), 2014 Regional runner-up, and 2018 regional semifinalist for the Patriots and a 2017 Florida State semifinalist with his club team, the Tampa Bay United Rowdies. Outside of soccer, Ghodsi was an Honor Roll student, treasurer of the National Honor Society, member of Mu Alpha Theta and the French Honor Society, and a recipient of the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award at Carrollwood Day School. 

Garrett Lyons • Center Midfielder/Center Back

A four-year varsity starter and senior team captain, Lyons was a three-time All-Conference selection and two-time Washington Post All-Met pick for the Hoyas and led the Interstate Athletic Conference in points in both his junior and senior seasons. Lyons toured Denmark and Sweden with the Club Champions League U-17 All-Star Team and was a four-time state cup semifinalist with Potomac, which he led to the 2017 Bethesda Premier Cup Championship and 2018 Jefferson Cup Championship. Outside of soccer, Lyons was a member of the National Honor Society and Dean’s List student at Georgetown Prep and was a two-year member of the Prep’s varsity rugby team, where he was named to the All-Met roster as a sophomore.

James McCombs • Center Back

McCombs earned Rookie of the Year and Midfielder of the Year recognition and was an All-A-South, All-County, and All-State selection for the Green Dragons. McCombs captained the USSDA CSA Monmouth U-19 squad and was the starting center back for the U16/U17 and U18/U19 seasons. Outside of soccer, McCombs graduated in the Top 17% of his class while his GPA ranked in the 96th percentile of Brick’s graduating class.

Frantz Pierrot • Center Forward

Pierrot is an incoming center forward who played high school soccer at Melrose High School and club soccer with Reading United AC and was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti.

Bryce Wallace • Forward
Wilmington, Del. • Salesianum High School
Delaware Rush Soccer Club
A four-time state champion and 2017 All-State First Team selection for the Sallies, Wallace capped a phenomenal high school career as the 2018 Player of the Year and a National High School All-American. He was also a five-time State Cup Champion, a regional finalist, and a National Rush Select Player with the Delaware Rush Soccer Club. Outside of soccer, Wallace was a member of Salesianum’s National Honor Society.

Scott Woodington • Center Back
Delran, N.J. • Delran High School
Washington United Blackjacks
Woodington was an All-State Third Team selection as well as an All-County and All-South Jersey First Team pick for the Bears while at Delran High School.

Leon Maric • Center Forward/Attacking Midfielder
Gilbertsville, Pa. • Boyertown Area Senior High School/University of Virginia
FC Continental Academy/Philadelphia Union Academy/Penn Fusion Academy
Maric is a transfer out of the University of Virginia, where he appeared in six matches and scored one goal as a forward from 2016-17. Prior to his time with the Cavaliers, Maric was an Honor Roll student at Boyertown Area Senior High School and won state and regional titles with FC Continental Academy in 2013. Maric was born in Ljubuski, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
