PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's men's track and field and cross country standouts Dan Savage and David Dorsey have been voted onto the 2018 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Track and Field and Cross Country First Team for District 2, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America teams announced in June.
Dorsey appears on the team for the second time in his career having also earned the recognition in 2016 while Savage earns his first career nod.
Savage, SJU's 2017 Most Valuable Cross Country Performer, finished as the Hawks' top runner in all six of his races this past cross country season. He turned in a seventh-place finish at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship to lead SJU to a second-place team finish and turned in an 11th-place finish at the 2017 IC4A Championship to lead SJU to a third-place team finish; for his successes, Savage was named to the All-Conference and All-East teams. Savage also finished 39th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and placed second overall at the George Mason Invitational to lead SJU to the team title.
Savage did not compete during the indoor track and field season due to exhausted eligibility but opened his final outdoor campaign with a trio of top-ten performances, with a fourth-place finish in the 3000m at the Rider 5-Way and sixth-place finishes in both the 3000m steeplechase and 4x1500m relay at the Colonial Relays. Savage closed his collegiate career with a trio of 3000m steeplechase performances, at the Penn Relays, A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships (10th), and IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships (23rd).
Savage graduated from Saint Joseph's in May 2017 with a dual degree in finance and risk management and insurance and is currently working toward his MBA in business administration at SJU. He will begin work as an underwriter with Cigna Health Insurance in Philadelphia this June.
Dorsey, who scored in all six of his cross country meets this past fall, finished as SJU's #3 runner at both the 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship (57/180) and IC4A Championship (32/203), helping SJU to a third-place team finish at the latter meet. Dorsey also placed seventh at both the George Mason Invitational, guiding the Hawks to the team title, and Rider Invitational, where the Hawks placed second.
Dorsey anchored the second-place DMR at the Lehigh Angry Birds Challenge, placed fourth in the 3000m at the Wagner Invitational, and took fifth in the 5000m at the Penn State National Open before closing the indoor track and field season with a 17th-place finish in the 5000m at the A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championships. Dorsey took home a seventh-place finish in the outdoor 5000m at the Temple Owls Invitational and an eighth-place finish in the outdoor 3000m at the Rider 5-Way Meet before closing his collegiate career with a pair of 10,000m performances at the A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships (12th) and IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships (18th).
Dorsey graduated from Saint Joseph's University with a degree in English earlier this month and will remain in Philadelphia to begin his professional career as an accountant with Ernst and Young in their audit practice this fall.
Savage and Dorsey are joined on the 13-member team by Jake Brophy, Josh Hanna, Stefano Pineda, and Benjamin Stewart of the U.S. Naval Academy, Carter Day and Chris Shaffer of George Washington University, the University of Louisville's Joe Delgado, Bryce England of Saint Francis University, Lehigh University's Patrick Reilly, Taylor Scarbrough of Western Kentucky University, and the University of Kentucky's Jacob Thomson.
