Saint Joseph's senior guard/forward Chelsea Woods has been selected to the All-Big 5 First Team and named the leading free throw shooter, while junior guard/forward Sarah Veilleux earned her second-straight Scholar Athlete honor and was selected to the All-Big 5 Second Team, Philadelphia Big 5 officials announced on Wednesday.
An Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team selection, Woods led the Hawks in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounds (7.7 rpg), while shooting 83.3 percent from the foul line. Topping the Hawks in scoring 12 times and posting a team-best eight double-doubles, she additionally handed out a career-high 77 assists and ranked 10th in the conference in field goal percentage (.467). An All-Big 5 Second Team selection a season ago, Woods capped her career 14th all-time in points (1,228) and seventh in rebounds (783).
One of the top wings in the Big 5, Veilleux averaged a career-high 12.8 points per game this season, while shooting 49.8 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range. Named the Hawk Classic MVP, she scored in double figures 21 times and finished with career-highs in assists (57) and steals (24). A business intelligence and analytics major with a 3.84 GPA, Veilleux is the first Hawk to earn the Big 5 Scholar Athlete award twice.
Woods and Veilleux helped Saint Joseph's finish the season with a 19-15 mark and along the way capture the Hawk Classic title, appear in the Atlantic 10 Championship title game and earn the program's 28th postseason berth as the Hawks advanced to the second round of the Postseason WNIT.
Award winners will be honored at the Big 5 Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet that will be held on Monday, April 16 beginning at 6:00 pm at the Palestra.
