WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior standout Claudine Andre won both the high jump and long jump and the Hawks took home the 4x100m title as the Saint Joseph’s women’s track and field squad tied for ninth in a field of 42 teams at the 53rd Annual Berkeley Realty Colonial Relays, hosted by William and Mary at Zable Stadium from Thursday, April 5 through Saturday, April 7. The Hawks accumulated 39 points for the meet, with 30 of those points coming from their three wins.
Andre won both the high jump and the long jump on Friday to take home 20 points for the Crimson and Gray, more than half of SJU’s total for the meet.
Andre won the high jump with a mark of 5' 7" (1.70m), edging out UMass-Lowell's Danielle Poublon (1.65m) and Kerstin Darsney (1.65m) to claim the title in a field of 13. The senior also won the long jump with a collegiate-best mark of 19' 4 3/4" (5.91m), edging out Shippensburg's Dani Sciremammano (5.63m) to claim the title in a field of 10. Both performances met ECAC qualification.
Saint Joseph’s 4x100m relay of sophomore Caroline Duffy, junior Kelly Liebl, sophomore Aliyah Stokes, and junior Nathaniela Bourdeau cruised to a time of 49.01, edging out Columbia (49.23) to place first in a field of 16.
Saint Joseph’s 4x1500m relay of junior Lucy Harmon, sophomore Emily Bracken, junior Lindsey Oremus, and senior Cassidy Weimer crossed in 18:56.57 for a third-place, six-point performance while Weimer added an ECAC-qualifying open 1500m performance (4:32.41) to place sixth in a field of 88 runners for three points to round out the scoring for the Crimson and Gray.
Also of note, Duffy just missed scoring in 400m as the sophomore crossed in a collegiate-best time of 57.44 for ninth in a field of 69 while freshman Morgan Bower, in just her second collegiate track and field meet, placed 10th in the javelin with a mark of 123' 11" (37.76m).
Saint Joseph's returns to action at a pair of meets next weekend. The Temple Owls Invitational is set for Friday, April 13 at Temple's Sports Complex in Philadelphia with the start time still to be determined while the Rider Invitational is slated for Saturday, April 14 at Rider's Track and Field Complex in Lawrenceville, N.J., set for an 11:00 a.m. start.
