NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the Hawks to a 1-1 week last week, which included a 12-10 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday, Saint Joseph's junior midfielder Rebecca Lane has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week while freshman attacker Stephanie Kelly has been tabbed league's Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks first of Lane's career after earning a pair of Rookie of the Week nods in 2016 while Kelly earns her second Rookie of the Week accolade of the season.
Lane registered seven points on six goals and an assist last week. The junior midfielder hit the back of the net twice and added a helper in SJU's 16-11 loss to then-#11/8 Navy on Tuesday before going off for a game-high four goals in SJU's 12-10 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday; Lane scored two of the Hawks' final five goals, including the late equalizer, to lead SJU to the victory.
Kelly scored twice against then-#11/8 Navy and went on to score a goal and add an assist vs. Vanderbilt; Kelly scored just 22 seconds into Sunday's game against the Commodores to spark a 4-0, game-opening run by the Crimson and Gray.
The Melbourne, Australia duo has combined for 39 points on 24 goals and 15 assists through six games this spring, and both have made all six starts on the attack.
Lane, Kelly, and the Hawks (3-3) close out a three-game homestand tomorrow, March 14, against #14/13 Towson. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
