PHILADELPHIA – Coming off of its first win of the 2018 season, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse squad (1-1) will face city-rival Temple (2-1) on Wednesday, February 21. Opening draw control at Howarth Field in Philadelphia is set for 3:00 p.m.

Saint Joseph's enters Wednesday's game following a 21-8, home-opening win over CCSU on Saturday; junior midfielder Hayley Sabol exploded for a career-high seven goals while junior midfielder Rebecca Lane (2g, 3a) and freshman attacker Stephanie Kelly (3g, 2a), who was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her performance, combined for 10 points to lead nine Hawks in scoring.

Lane leads the Hawks in scoring with 10 points on four goals and a team-high six assists while Sabol (team-high 8g) and Kelly (5g, 3a) are next in line with eight points apiece. Senior midfielder Kate Payne and sophomore midfielder Julia Pash have combined for 22 of SJU's 36 draw controls through two games, while graduate student goalkeeper Liz O'Sullivan (1-1) owns a .409 save percentage with 18 saves through 109:09.

Temple opened the season with back-to-back wins over Rutgers, 12-8, and Monmouth, 18-7, before suffering a 17-4 loss to then-#9 Princeton on Saturday; Nicole Barretta owns 17 points (team-high 12g, team-high 5a) through all three games while Maryn Lowell (2-1) sports a .537 save percentage and an 11.27 goals against average in a majority of Temple's minutes (165:04).

Wednesday's game will mark the 21st all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and Temple. The Owls own an 18-2 series advantage and have won the last eight match-ups. Saint Joseph's last win came in the form of a 15-6 victory at home in 2009; SJU's other win was also at home, in 2007. The Hawks and Owls have played each other every year since 1999. Two of SJU’s last three losses have been by just one goal; Lane scored a game-high five goals and O'Sullivan made 12 saves in SJU’s 14-13 home loss to Temple last spring.
