NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the Hawks to a fourth-place team finish at the Penn 8-Team Select at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday evening, Saint Joseph's senior Claudine Andre has been selected the Atlantic 10 Women's Field Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the third weekly accolade of the senior's career after being tabbed the Performer of the Week in May of 2016 and the Rookie of the Week in February of 2015.
Andre won the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 5’ 7” (1.70m), hitting her season-best mark for the second consecutive weekend. That performance alone earned 10 of SJU's 39 total points for the meet.
The senior captain also posted a collegiate-best time in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 9.13 to earn a sixth-place, scoring performance in the finals; she had gone 9.20 in the preliminaries of the event to own the seventh-fastest time in a field of 24.
Andre's high jump mark (5' 7") ties for first in the A-10, while her time in the 60m hurdles (9.13) sits 15th.
Andre and the Hawks will compete at two different meets this weekend as SJU heads to the Penn State National Open at Penn State University’s Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa. from Friday, January 26 to Saturday, January 27 as well as the Monmouth Winter Invitational at Monmouth University’s OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J. on Saturday, January 27. The Penn State National Open is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the start time for the Monmouth Winter Invitational is TBA.
