NEW ORLEANS – After a dazzling, second-place team finish at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship on Saturday, the Saint Joseph's men's cross country squad has been ranked 10th in a field of 15 ranked teams in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Cross Country Week 6 Regional Rankings for the Mid-Atlantic Region, it was announced on Monday afternoon. The Hawks were ranked 12th last week.
The 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship will be hosted by Lehigh University next Friday, November 10. The 10k race is slated to begin at 11:45 a.m. on the Goodman Campus. The top two teams and top four individuals receive automatic qualification for the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship, to be held on Saturday, November 18 in Louisville, Ky.
The Hawks finished ninth in a field of 22 teams at the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and return point scorers in graduate student Dan Savage (26th), senior David Dorsey (37th), and junior Justin Branco (56th) as well as senior Collin Crilly and sophomore Josh Clark, SJU’s #6 and #7 runners. SJU will look to fill the vacancy of graduates Jimmy Daniels (64th) and John Mascioli (78th), who finished as SJU’s #4 and #5 runners. SJU was predicted to finish ninth at this year's meet.
Savage (7th), Crilly (18th), and Dorsey (24th) all scored as SJU's #1, #3, and #5 finishers at A-10s on Saturday. Sophomore Zach Michon (15th) and junior Shawn Hutchison (20th) finished as SJU's #2 and #4 runners while Clark turned in SJU's sixth-fastest performance.
