PHILADELPHIA – The Rams scored three second-half goals as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad dropped an Atlantic 10 match-up to VCU, 3-0, on Saturday evening on Sweeney Field. With their third consecutive loss, the Hawks fall to 3-9-4 (1-4-1 A-10) while the Rams, winners of seven of their last eight matches, improve to 8-4-0 (5-1-0 A-10).

With four league points, the Hawks now sit 11th in the A-10 standings.

"VCU had a lot of firepower," said head coach Don D'Ambra following the match. "They have a couple of All-Conference players, and they're a very talented team. I thought our guys played really well. We put ourselves in a position where we were 0-0 at the half . . . hard-fought battle. We had a lot of good chances, and as the game wore down, they ended up having a little more space. With a team with that much talent, they took advantage of a couple little errors on our part, and then we got caught chasing the game. Tough game, but I was really proud of our guys' efforts. We have to get ready for GW."

The Rams scored their first goal in the 49th minute and added on two more in the 79th and 80th minutes of play.

For the match, VCU owned a 21-11 edge in shots and landed nine shots on goal in comparison to SJU's two. The match was close in the first half, as the Rams only earned a 5-4 edge in shots before breaking through with 16 in the second half. Three Hawks took two shots apiece, while freshman midfielder Alvin Dahn (16') and senior forward Isaac Agyapong (41') landed SJU's lone shots on net, both in the first half.

Senior goalkeeper Greg O'Connell (3-9-3, 1-4-1 A-10) made six saves, including four in the second half, in the full 90:00.

Saint Joseph's will host George Washington (8-6-2, 5-2-0 A-10) next Saturday, October 28. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field. Prior to the start of the match, the Saint Joseph's men's soccer program will honor its eight seniors - forward Isaac Agyapong, midfielder Matt Crawford, midfielder Nick Hartwell, defender Kevin Lockhart, goalkeeper Trevor Nicol, goalkeeper Greg O'Connell, defender Tom Santilli, and defender Ben Zambetti - in a Senior Day ceremony.
