The Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball team will take to the court for the season’s first official practice on Saturday, September 30.

The Hawks are returning five starters and 15 players from last year’s squad that was slowed by four season-ending injuries to Shavar Newkirk, Lamarr Kimble, Pierfrancesco Oliva and Lorenzo Edwards. ROSTER

Among the other returning players who saw starting assignments last year are senior James Demery (14.5 ppg) and A-10 All-Rookie selection Charlie Brown (12.8), along with senior Chris Clover (7.8), junior Markell Lodge (4.6) and sophomore Nick Robinson (5.2).

The Hawks welcome two freshmen into the fold - 6-9 forward Taylor Funk (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) and 6-10 forward Anthony Longpré (L’Assomption, Quebec/Glenelg Country). Funk was an All-State First Team selection who averaged a league-high 24.3 points per game and finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,977 points. Longpré averaged over 15 points and eight rebounds per game, while earning Maryland Interscholastic All-Star honors. Longpré played for Canada’s gold-medal winning U19 National Team this past summer.

SJU opens the season on the road on November 11 at Toledo and then stay in the Midwest to take on Illinois at Chicago on November 13. The Hawks will host Princeton on November 18 in the home opener at Hagan Arena.

The complete game schedule with times and television coverage will be announced in the coming weeks. SCHEDULE
