PHILADELPHIA - A pair of televised games and 13 contests versus teams that made the postseason last year highlight the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team's 2017-18 schedule.
The Hawks will make an appearance on NBCSN with a home game against Richmond on January 10, while their February 4 contest against George Mason at Hagan Arena will air on the CBS Sports Network. Along with the television games, Saint Joseph's will face four teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament and nine that competed for the Postseason WNIT crown.
Returning four starters and 11 letterwinners overall from last year's team that earned the program's 10th Postseason WNIT appearance, the Hawks open the season with three straight road games, starting with the season opener at Niagara on November 12. Following contests at Patriot League champion Bucknell (Nov. 15) and CAA champion James Madison (Nov. 18), Saint Joseph's welcomes Eastern Illinois, Delaware and Saint Peter's to Hagan Arena for the 24th Annual Hawk Classic on November 25 and 26.
The Hawks return to the road for games at Temple (Nov. 29), Villanova (Dec. 3) and Towson (Dec. 5) before returning home for contests against Penn (Dec. 11) and Drexel (Dec. 17).
Saint Joseph’s rounds out the non-conference portion of its schedule at the Gator Holiday Classic with a game against Princeton on December 20, followed by a matchup with host Florida on December 21.
Shifting to conference play, the Hawks will face Duquesne, La Salle and VCU twice this year, while playing five A-10 teams at home and the other five on the road.
Saint Joseph's opens at home versus VCU on December 31 and then heads to St. Bonaventure (Jan. 3). The Hawks come home for two straight games starting with a matchup versus reigning A-10 champion Dayton (Jan. 7), followed by a NBCSN nationally televised game against Richmond (Jan. 10). Saint Joseph's plays four of its next five on the road to close out the month starting at Massachusetts (Jan. 13) and Saint Louis (Jan. 21). After a home game versus Duquesne on January 24 SJU heads to La Salle (Jan. 28) and VCU (Jan. 31).
February begins with the Hawks hosting George Mason (Feb. 4) and Rhode Island (Feb. 7) then traveling to Duquesne (Feb. 10) and Davidson (Feb. 14). Saint Joseph's wraps up the month with home games against La Salle (Feb. 17) and George Washington (Feb. 20), then caps the regular season at Fordham on February 24.
The 2018 A-10 Championship will feature six first-round games being played on campus sites on Tuesday, Feb. 27 before heading to Richmond, Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4 for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round. For the second consecutive year, the women's championship will place an increased emphasis on the regular season in a fan friendly format.
