PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team caps the non-conference portion of its schedule this week as the Hawks head to Providence on Thursday before returning home to host Columbia on Sunday. The Hawks and Friars open play at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while SJU and Columbia are set for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday at Sweeney Field.
Saint Joseph's enters the week 4-1-1 and are coming off a 1-0 victory at previously undefeated Ohio State last Sunday. Ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll, the Hawks also received a pair of individual honors this week as junior Paige Bergman was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week and Grace Bendon was selected A-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Bergman, who is nominated for HERO Sports DI Women's Soccer HERO of the Week, tallied the game-winning goal against the Buckeyes, while Bendon made a game-high nine saves in the shutout.
Like the Hawks, Providence (3-4-0) is also coming off a big win as the Friars topped Arkansas, 4-3, on Sunday for their second straight win. Juliana Pellegrini leads Providence in goals (two) and is tied with Katie Day for the team lead in points (four). In goal, Shelby Hogan has gone 3-4-0 with a 1.57 goals-against-average and .784 save percentage.
It's an A-10 weekend for Columbia as it heads to Fordham on Friday before coming to Hawk Hill on Sunday. Columbia enters the week at 3-2-1 and are coming off wins over Sacred Heart and Stony Brook.
