NEW ORLEANS – The Saint Joseph's men's cross country squad has been ranked ninth in a field of 15 ranked teams in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Cross Country Week 1 Regional Rankings for the Mid-Atlantic Region, it was announced on Monday afternoon.
SJU is coming off of a second-place team finish at the season-opening TCNJ Blue/Gold Invitational on August 28 and is set to race the Rider Invitational at Rosedale Park in Hopewell, N.J. this Friday, September 15. At Rider, the Hawks will race against regional opponents Rutgers, ranked 10th in the region, and both host-school Rider and Temple, unranked in the poll.
The 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship will be hosted by Lehigh University on Friday, November 10. The top two teams and top four individuals receive automatic qualification for the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championship, to be held on Saturday, November 18 in Louisville, Ky.
The Hawks finished ninth in a field of 22 teams at the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and return point scorers in graduate student Dan Savage (26th), senior David Dorsey (37th), and junior Justin Branco (56th) as well as senior Collin Crilly and sophomore Josh Clark, SJU’s #6 and #7 runners. SJU will look to fill the vacancy of graduates Jimmy Daniels (64th) and John Mascioli (78th), who finished as SJU’s #4 and #5 runners. SJU was predicted to finish ninth at this year's meet.
