HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's golf team jumped two spots to cap its season-opening weekend with a ninth place finish at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational.
Entering the day tied for 11th at the par-72 Seven Oaks Golf Club (6,834 yards), the Hawks posted a final round of 301 for a three-round score of 306-300-301/907 (+43) to jump up two spots.
Individually, sophomore Michael O'Brien finished tied for 19th to lead SJU with a score of 73-80-71/224. Junior Ross Pilliod tied for 22nd, two shots behind O'Brien at 78-72-76/226, while Tyler Sokolis and Reed Winkler both tied for 55th with scores or 80-75-79/234 and 82-77-75/234, respectively. Sophomore Richard Riva rounded out the squad, but did not compete on Sunday, as he placed 84th at 75-76/151.
North Dakota State won the team title by two strokes at 884, while Penn's Josh Goldenberg earned medalist honors with a score of 215.
The Hawks are back in action September 16-17 at the Cornell Invitational.
