NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 2017 Saint Joseph’s men’s cross country team has been predicted to finish fifth in a field of 14 squads at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship, according to the conference’s preseason poll released on Wednesday afternoon. Voting was conducted by the league’s 14 head coaches.

The Hawks placed fifth in 2016 and return three of five point scorers in graduate student Dan Savage (17th), sophomore Josh Clark (23rd), and senior David Dorsey (29th) in addition to junior Justin Branco and senior Collin Crilly, SJU’s #6 and #7 finishers a year ago. SJU will look to fill the vacancy of graduates Jimmy Daniels (24th) and John Mascioli (37th), who finished as SJU’s #3 and #5 runners.

The Hawks have finished as one of the A-10’s top-three teams six times in the last eight years, which includes a pair of first-place finishes (2009, 2015), a pair of second-place finishes (2012, 2013), and a pair of third-place finishes (2011, 2014).

The 2017 Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship will be hosted by George Mason University at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. on Saturday, October 28.

Saint Joseph’s kicks off the 2017 campaign this Saturday, September 2 at the TCNJ Blue/Gold Invitational.
