PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's veteran distance standouts David Dorsey and Dan Savage have been voted onto the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Track and Field Team, organization officials announced on Friday. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.

Earning back-to-back Academic All-Area Team honors for track and field, Dorsey excelled on both the indoor and outdoor scene during his junior campaign. During the indoor season, Dorsey finished 12th in the 5000m at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships, turned in a sixth-place finish in the 3000m at the Penn 8-Team Select at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex and earned a seventh-place performance in the 5000m at the Penn State National Invitational. During the outdoor season, Dorsey finished 11th in the 10,000m at the 2017 A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, placed sixth in his first collegiate 10,000m at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational and raced the 5000m at both the Colonial Relays and Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational.

A rising senior, Dorsey was voted onto both the A-10 All-Academic indoor and outdoor teams this year and studies English at Saint Joseph's University.

Savage placed 39th in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds, claimed the silver medal in the event at the 2017 A-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and placed seventh in the event at the IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a collegiate-best time of 9:04.05 this spring.

Savage also placed fourth in the 5000m at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational and fifth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Colonial Relays. Savage studied risk management and insurance as an undergraduate at Saint Joseph's University and owns one remaining year of outdoor eligibilty for the 2018 spring.

Dorsey and Savage are joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Track and Field Team by Performer of the Year Taurai Augustin of Holy Family, Daniel Belkin of Swarthmore, Rutgers-Camden's Richard Campolungo, Casey Comber of Villanova, Gwynedd Mercy's Justin DeLuzio, Noah Kennedy-White of Penn, Rowan's Glen Kohles and John Meyer, and Henry Woods of Haverford.
