NEW ORLEANS – Saint Joseph's men's track and field senior standout Dan Savage has received United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic honors for his individual performances during the 2016-17 season. Additionally, both the men's and women's track and field squads earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team as an individual, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, including preliminary rounds.
Savage made his NCAA East Preliminary Rounds debut back on May 26, placing 39th in the 3000m steeplechase quarterfinal. Savage graduated from SJU with a degree in risk management and insurance in May and has one remaining year of outdoor track (and cross country) eligibility in 2017-18.
Both the men's and women's squads earned the All-Academic team honors as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The women's squad has now been recognized for six consecutive years, while the men's squad pulled in its fifth consecutive honor.
