MERION STATION, Pa. – La Salle's Luke Reilly tossed a complete game as the Explorers topped the Saint Joseph's baseball team, 5-1, in the rubber game between the two teams at Smithson Field on Sunday afternoon.

It was a pitcher's duel between Reilly and SJU's Jordan DiValerio through four innings, as DiValerio retired eight Explorers in a row and Reilly allowed just one hit through five.

La Salle (10-35 overall, 4-14 Atlantic 10) broke through in the fifth as Rafael Amanau singled before Ryan Guckin hit a home run down the right field line to give the Explorers a 2-0 lead.

Saint Joseph's (16-24 overall, 7-11 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the sixth as Deon Stafford, Jr., connected for his seventh home run of the season and his second in as many days to cut the deficit in half.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Amanau led off the seventh with a single before Connor Hinchcliffe homered to right and made it a 4-1 game.  Amanau then added an RBI single in the eighth to set the final margin.

Reilly improved to 2-5 on the season after allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven.  He retired 10 Hawks in a row before Stafford's home run and 14 out of 15 between the third and seventh innings.  DiValerio took the loss, falling to 1-1 after allowing two runs on five hits and a walk to go with four strikeouts.

The Hawks are idle until Friday, when Dayton comes to Smithson Field for a three-game series.  First pitch in the opener is set for 3:00 p.m.

Saturday will be Senior Day, when the Hawks honor their departing seniors, as well as Alumni and Family Day at Smithson Field.
