MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's team battled Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island to the final point on Saturday. Despite a strong fight from the Hawk, the Rams prevailed in the end, 4-3.

The Rams took the first point of the match, but moving to singles, SJU would square the match at 3-3.

Falling behind 3-0, SJU got singles wins from Maureen Devlin, Katherine Devlin and Alex Zachem to tie it.

In the final match of the day, SJU's Isis Gill-Reid forced a third set against Rachel Smilansky. Unfortunately, URI's Smilansky captured the final set to earn the team win for her squad.

"We knew it would be a tough, close fight and it was," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "We came close to pulling it out, but they played too steady in the clutch. The opponent earned the win."

The Hawks wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Sunday at 10 a.m. versus George Washington.
