BOSTON – Senior standout Torey Doaty capped a decorated collegiate indoor track and field career at the 2017 IC4A Championships, held at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center this weekend. The Hawks placed sixth in both the 500m and 4x400m relay to combine for six points as SJU tied for 35th in a field of 43 squads.

On Sunday afternoon, Doaty flew through the finals of the 500m in a season-best time of 1:03.54 to place sixth overall. He had clocked in at 1:03.76 in Saturday’s preliminaries to own the third-fastest time to advance to the event’s final.

Doaty is now a three-time All-East selection in the indoor 500m, having placed second last year and fourth in 2015, and will leave his legacy as the only Hawk in men’s track and field program history to earn three All-East finishes in the event.

Less than three hours later, Doaty went on to anchor the 4x400m relay of junior Barren McCoy, senior Eddison Gulama, and junior Kenny Evely to a sixth-place finish in a season-best time of 3:13.86.

With the top-eight finish, Doaty earned All-East honors in the 4x4 for the fourth time in his career, having placed first last year, third in 2015, and eighth in 2014. He becomes the only Hawk in program history to lead SJU to four All-East finishes in the event.

Gulama becomes a two-time All-East member in the 4x400m relay, as well.

In Saturday’s preliminaries, McCoy (1:04.46 PR) and freshman Trae' Robinson (1:09.08) placed 14th and 22nd, respectively, in the 500m while junior Steve Thompson went 1:52.24 for 800m to place 16th overall.

In his final collegiate indoor race, senior Jack Magee crushed his 1000m PR as he went sub-2:29 (2:28.76) for the first time in his career. Magee and sophomore Dylan Eddinger (2:31.26) finished 15th and 19th in Saturday’s preliminaries while junior Dave Garton (4:11.51 PR), freshman Zach Michon (4:12.64 PR), and junior Collin Crilly (4:12.95) went 17th, 22nd, and 23rd in the mile.

Senior Jimmy Daniels clocked in with a 3k time of 8:30.54 for 16th overall on Sunday.

Saint Joseph’s 4x800m relay of senior Brandon Ossont, sophomore Rory Houston, freshman Colin Parker, and freshman Will Davies went 7:45.87 for 13th overall while Saint Joseph’s Distance Medley Relay of freshman John Walker, senior Kevin Barry, freshman Josh Clark, and Crilly finished in 10:08.99 for 23rd on Saturday.

The meet concludes the 2017 indoor track and field season for the Crimson and Gray. Saint Joseph’s opens the outdoor track and field campaign on Saturday, March 25 at the 22nd Annual Monmouth Season Opener, to be held at Kessler Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
