Saint Joseph’s has earned the 13th seed and will face 12th-seeded Massachusetts in the 2017 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship Opening Round on Wednesday, March 8 at 6 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Wednesday’s game will be televised by the American Sports Network and its affiliates, including ComcastSportsNet in Philadelphia.

A head-to-head tiebreaker determined the seeding for UMass and SJU. If the Hawks defeat UMass, they’ll advance to the First Round on Thursday and play fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure at 2:30 p.m.
Dayton, which won the regular season title with a 15-3 conference record, will be the No. 1 seed for the 14-team tournament.
In addition to Dayton, second-seeded VCU, No. 3 Richmond and No. 4 Rhode Island earned byes into the quarterfinal round of the championship. Richmond and Rhode Island tied at 13-5 in league play, but the Spiders earned the three seed by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker. Dayton plays at noon on Friday, followed by Rhode Island at 2:30 pm. VCU (14-4) opens the evening session at 6:00 pm and Richmond will close out the quarterfinals at 8:30 pm.
Seeds five through 10 earn byes into the second round and will play Thursday on NBCSN.
No. 6 George Washington (10-8) will open play Thursday at 8:30 pm against the winner of the late first-round game between No. 11 Saint Louis (6-12) and No. 14 Duquesne (3-15). The Billikens and Dukes game will tip off at 8:30 pm on Wednesday on ASN.
Seventh-seeded George Mason (9-9) wins a head-to-head tiebreaker over No. 8 La Salle (9-9) and will play 10-seeded Fordham at 6:00 pm on Thursday in the second round, with the winner playing No. 2 VCU. La Salle faces No. 9 Davidson (8-10) at noon on Thursday for the right to play Dayton in the quarterfinals.
All five days of the championship will be televised. The American Sports Network (ASN) will air Wednesday’s first-round games while NBCSN will carry the entire second round Thursday and all four quarterfinal matchups Friday. CBS Sports Network will air the semifinals Saturday at 1:00 and 3:30 pm. The championship final is set for 12:30 pm on CBS Sports as part of their annual Selection Sunday coverage.
The Hawks have captured the Atlantic 10 title in the past two of three years (2014, 2016), but were plagued this season by four season-ending injuries, including those to their top two scoring guards, Shavar Newkirk and Lamarr Kimble.
