RICHMOND, Va. - Behind a game-high 21 points from junior Chelsea Woods, third seed Saint Joseph's topped sixth seed La Salle, 66-48, in the Quarterfinals of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship on Friday evening at the Richmond Coliseum.
With the victory, the Hawks (17-13) advance to the Semifinals on Saturday where they will face seventh seed Duquesne at 1:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network.
Facing each other for the third time this season, La Salle (17-13) jumped out to an early 14-10 lead.
Saint Joseph's quickly erased the Explorers' advantage as it used a 15-2 run that spanned into the second quarter to take a 25-16 edge on a three-pointer by Alyssa Monaghan with 4:38 to go in the quarter.
Down seven entering the third quarter, La Salle gained momentum from the start and quickly made it a 29-27 game.
The Hawks regrouped though and answered back with a 13-5 run to push their lead to 42-32 on a Woods layup at 1:32.
Ahead by 10 entering the fourth quarter, Saint Joseph's never allowed La Salle to get any closer as it picked up its third win over the Explorers this season.
For the game, the Hawks shot 49 percent from the floor (24-of-49), 40 percent from behind the arc (2-of-5) and 94.1 percent from the foul line (16-of-17).
Individually, Woods added 10 rebounds for the double-double to go with her 21 points. Sophomore Sarah Veilleux added 12 points and four rebounds, while senior Amanda Fioravanti was the third Hawk in double figures with 10 points. Junior Adashia Franklyn matched Woods with 10 boards and chipped in six points.
At the other end, the Explorers were held to 25.5 percent shooting (14-of-55), went 2-of-8 from behind the arc and 18-of-24 from the foul line. Amy Griffin led La Salle with a team-high 18 points.
