PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's junior David Dorsey and redshirt junior captain Dan Savage have been selected to the 2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Cross Country Academic All-Area Team, it was announced on Wednesday. Selected by 30 sports information offices of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, also known as PhillySIDA, the 2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Cross-Country Team recognizes student-athletes who athletically excel while contributing to their surrounding community and exceed a 3.20 GPA. Dorsey and Savage are two of seven student-athletes to be selected.

On the trails this fall, Dorsey raced six times and scored in all six of his meets. The junior led the Hawks with a 10th-place finish in a field of 277 racers at the Princeton Invitational, a 25th-place finish at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, and an 82nd-place finish at the Paul Short Run and went on to finish as SJU's #2 runner at both the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and the IC4A Championship and SJU's #4 runner at the Atlantic 10 Championship. A 2016 IC4A All-East Team selection, Dorsey was one of two Hawks to run sub-25:00 for 8k this fall, and the only Hawk to accomplish the feat twice (24:33.2, 24:39.8). Dorsey is now a two-time Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Cross Country Team selection after being the only sophomore voted onto the squad a year ago. He majors in English at SJU.

Savage led the Hawks with a 17th-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship and a 26th-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and went on to earn IC4A All-East Team honors at the IC4A Championship. Savage also finished 44th at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational and 54th at the Princeton Invitational to score at both meets for the Crimson and Gray. Savage, who majors in risk management and insurance, raced six times and scored in five of his meets this fall.

Dorsey and Savage were also voted onto the six-member Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team, as announced on November 15. They will return for their final cross country seasons in Fall 2017.
