PHILADELPHIA – Ranked eighth in the region, the Saint Joseph’s men’s cross country squad will head to the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship this Friday, November 11. Hosted by Penn State University at the Blue and White Golf Course, the 10k race is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The top two teams and top four individuals receive automatic qualification for the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championship, to be held on Saturday, November 29 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Saint Joseph's seven runners and one alternate to represent the Hawks at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship will be comprised of SJU's top-eight finishers from the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship race and will include senior captains Jimmy Daniels and John Mascioli, redshirt junior captain Dan Savage, juniors Collin Crilly and David Dorsey, sophomores Justin Branco and Sean Macpherson, and freshman Josh Clark.

Four of the eight listed Hawks own NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship experience, as Daniels and Mascioli will run their fourth and final 10k race, Dorsey enters his third, and Branco is set for his second.

Georgetown is ranked first in the Mid-Atlantic while Penn, Navy, Princeton, and Villanova round out the top five. Penn State and Duquesne edge out SJU for the sixth and seventh spots, while La Salle, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Lehigh, Bucknell, Temple, and George Washington sit 9-15. 26 squads are scheduled to race. Georgetown won the title last year.

Saint Joseph's placed seventh in a field of 25 teams at the 2015 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, to finish four places and 52 points higher than in 2014. The seventh-place finish marked SJU's highest since 2012. Dorsey (33rd), Daniels (35th) and Mascioli (48th) finished as SJU's #1, #2, and #3 runners to return from the scoring group while Branco (80th) finished as SJU's #6 runner.

Seven of these Hawks raced the terrain of the Blue and White Golf Course, albeit for a 5.2-mile race, back on September 10 at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational. Dorsey (25th) led SJU in his season debut with a time of 27:22.1 while Crilly (27:43.4), Mascioli (27:50.4), Macpherson (27:57.7), Branco (28:03.7), Clark (28:04.0), and Daniels (28:26.1) earned course experience.

Led by Savage's 17th-place showing, the Hawks are coming off of a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship on October 29.
