Saint Joseph's freshmen scored a win for the Hawks' women's rowing team at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday. SJU's Freshman 8 outdistanced Connecticut to win its race.
The winning boat was comprised of: c-Gabby Argo, 8- Reece Long, 7- Allie Howell, 6- Kiernan Loue, 5-Isabella Haleski, 4- Emma Schuettler, 3- Jenn Raphaelson, 2- Christine Porcaro, 1- Demi Simms.
SJU's Varsity 4 also had a strong finish, placing seventh, while the Hawks' other two boats in that race taking 23rd and 27th out of 60 entrants.
The Hawks' three club eights all finished in the middle of the pack against a very blustery headwind.
SJU's entry in the Championship 8 also put together a solid row. "Although our time wasn't in the top few, we made great progress holding the technical changes that we made this week. It was a very strong mature race and is the next step in getting us ready for the Spring," said coach Gerry Quinlan.
The Hawks will compete next weekend, Nov. 5-6, in the Collegiate Small Boat Regatta in West Windsor, N.J.
