Maria McDevitt has been named assistant coach for the Saint Joseph’s women’s rowing team, it was announced by head coach Gerry Quinlan.

McDevitt had an accomplished rowing career at her alma mater, Philadelphia University. The 2010 graduate was a member of the inaugural team there and in her first year, stroked the Freshman 8 to a gold medal in the 2007 Dad Vail Regatta. She was then a member of the Varsity 8 which rowed in three straight Dad Vail Grand Finals and three straight NCAA Championships. McDevitt was named the team’s Most Valuable Rower in both 2008 and 2010.

Most recently, McDevitt was the head crew club coach for both boys and girls at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottsown, Pa. She had served in that position for all five years of the school’s program.

She is currently active rowing for the University Barge Club in her native Philadelphia. McDevitt competed in the 2016 Canadian Henley in the Women’s Senior 2x as well as the 2015 National Selection Regatta and the 2015 Pan Am Games Trials.
