The Saint Joseph's men's rowing team advanced all three of its boats to the semifinals of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The Hawks will compete again on Saturday morning.
The Varsity 8 finished second in its heat, behind Drexel, and advances directly to Saturday's semifinal (10:15 a.m.).
SJU's Freshman 8 placed second in its heat, also behind Drexel, while the Hawks' Second Varsity 8 was third in its heat.
"It was a very good first day of the regatta for the whole program. All three boats felt strong executing their race plans and we feel we can continue to get better in the semi-finals," said coach Mike Irwin.
Saturday's finals will be televised live in Philadelphia on 6ABC from 1 to 5 p.m. and can be seen elsewhere on ESPN3.com.
