NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s outfielder Collin Forgey was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, the league office announced. Forgey helped lead the Hawks to three victories last week and a 10-game winning streak that ran from April 18 to May 2.
Forgey led the Hawks with a .538 average and a 1.226 OPS this week, notching a hit in all four games. He also drove in a run in each game of SJU’s series against conference rival Richmond.
Forgey was hit by a pitch and went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in Friday’s 10-5 win over the Spiders. His second-inning single tied the game, and he came around to score what would turn out to be the winning run a few batters later. Forgey was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a sacrifice fly in Saturday’s 5-2 victory, and then closed out the weekend with a two-hit game in SJU’s loss on Sunday.
A native of San Diego, California, Forgey has taken over the team lead with a .376 batting average and hit .500 during the Hawks’ 10-game winning streak. He ranks among the top six in the Atlantic 10 in average, slugging, on-base, runs scored, hits, runs batted in, and triples.
Forgey shared the award with Danny Brennan of Saint Louis.
The Hawks host Delaware on Tuesday afternoon for their final non-conference game of the season. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
