PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s 4x2 and 4x8 boasted phenomenal performances as the Saint Joseph’s men’s track and field team capped its two-day schedule at the 2014 Penn Relays on Saturday afternoon. 

After qualifying for the College Men’s 4x2 IC4A on Friday afternoon, the Saint Joseph’s 4x2 of Chris Banks, Torey Doaty, Derrick Henry, and Alec Peabody crossed finish line of Saturday’s race in 1:27.02 for fifth place. 

Saint Joseph’s 4x8 of junior Jamie Gentile, freshman Eddison Gulama, and juniors Matthew McGarvey and Steve Butenewicz ran the event in 7:31.99 to take sixth in a field of 25.  

“It’s the funnest meet of the year,” said McGarvey following the race. “I love coming to this meet and being out here. It’s great to have weather like this and there’s always great competition. That brings out the best in everyone.”

Saint Joseph’s returns to action next weekend at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Amherst, Massachusetts from Saturday, May 3 through Sunday, May 4.
