NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's junior Aurora Davis and freshman Alex Zachem have garnered Atlantic 10 women's tennis weekly awards, conference officials have announced. Davis was selected A-10 Co-Player of the Week and ECAC Division I - South Player of the Week, while Zachem earned A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Going a perfect 8-0 in No. 1 singles and doubles last week, Davis lifted the Hawks to five wins last week. In the top singles flight, the junior recorded two three-set victories against Brittany Pilkington of George Mason (4-6, 7-5, 6-4) and Mikelle Mancini of Villanova (6-3, 2-6, 12-10), as well as two straight set wins over Adina Ungurean-Halagian of Saint Peters (6-0, 6-0) and Charlotte Dawson of Chestnut Hill (6-2, 6-1).
The Stroudsburg, Pa., product also added four No. 1 doubles wins with Zachem, defeating the top duos from George Mason (8-3), Villanova (8-3), Saint Peters (8-2) and Chestnut Hill (8-2).
A native of Arlington, Va., Zachem also picked up a win at No. 5 singles, besting Vanessa Vogel of Saint Peter's, 6-0, 6-1.
The Hawks cap their season April 24-28 at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Mason, Ohio.
