NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Saint Joseph’s men’s tennis team will be seeded sixth in this week’s Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship, set to begin on Thursday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Hawks will meet 11th-seeded La Salle at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner advancing to take on third-seeded Duquesne in the quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

Saint Joseph’s will rely on its strong lineup to continue its outstanding run of recent play into the Championship.  Senior Jose Sierra notched six wins this season in the top flight, while junior Pierre Brondeau recorded 12 wins across the top two flights in dual match play.

The Hawks received stellar play throughout the season from some of their younger contributors as well.  Sophomore Andres Urrea and freshman Tristan Boustany posted identical 18-6 singles records this season, while freshman Kyle Chalmers was 19-4, playing predominantly across the third, fourth, and fifth flights.  Chalmers and Urrea also combined to go 8-4 in doubles play, leading the squad in doubles wins.

Seniors Dan Barrus and Paranjay Malhotra could also see time at the Championship; Barrus played in the second and third flights this season, while Malhotra stepped in in the third through sixth flights.  Junior Jason Sisti came on strong late in the season as well, posting a 4-3 record in the sixth flight and a 7-5 mark overall.

The Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championship features a four-day, single-elimination format. The winner of the Championship will receive the Conference’s automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
